Senior Pastor

Rev. Steve Turner

Administrative Pastor

Pastor Steve Turner has served as Trinity’s senior pastor since July of 1991. Pastor Turner serves The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod as Iowa District West second Vice President. Pastor and his wife Darlene are the parents of four children, Rebecca, Eric, Alex and Natalie. Darlene is a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Pastor Turner’s s vision for ministry is that Trinity would carry on the mission God has given us of Connecting our Community with Christ. Our mission is sharing and caring for the people right here at home. We connect with people as we share the love and forgiveness of Christ, as we show hospitality to those who are new to our community, as we demonstrate compassion for the sick and shut-in and as we express sympathy for the dying and support for the grieving. This is all part of our mission as Christians Connecting our Community with Christ.

We believe our community is not limited to Algona, Iowa. Our prayer is that Trinity Lutheran becomes a dynamic model for Christian outreach and spiritual support for a changing world. Our prayer is that people of all ages would be touched by the reality of God’s love through the ministries we share and would find an atmosphere of acceptance, celebration, and authentic spiritual encouragement in our community of faith.

Our pastor would love to meet you at worship and discover how the people of Trinity Lutheran Church might support you in your continuing relationship with God or in experiencing that relationship for the very first time.

Associate Pastor

Rev. Jon Dunbar

Missionary to Youth and Families

Pastor Jon Dunbar has been serving as Trinity's associate Pastor and missionary to youth and young families since July of 2005.  He grew up in Wolcottville, Indiana and graduated from Valparaiso Univerisity in 1999.  He and his wife, Hope, were married in 2000 and have three young children - Samuel, Jesse, and Joseph.  In 2005, Pastor Dunbar received his Masters of Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and received a divine call to Trinity.  His father, Thomas, and brother, Paul, are also Lutheran pastors in Avilla, Indiana and Hastings, Nebraska, respectively.

The Dunbars have a variety of interests including playing the guitar, camping, and traveling.  Hope is fluent in both Spanish and German, and enjoys any opportunity to teach or tutor people of every age and skill level.

Pastor Dunbar's ministry at Trinity has a special focus on the youth and young families of the congregation.  Through his service to the congregation, he hopes to continue building on the programs that help youth grow in their faith and express that faith through service to others.  He also hopes to foster an environment at Trinity where young people feel accepted and appreciated both by their Lord and adults.

Young family ministry is another important aspect of Pastor Dunbar's ministry.  Through education and fellowship opportunities, we hope to provide these families with the necessary resources and support to live out their calling as Christ-centered, Gospel-driven families.  The latest building addition plans will definitely play an important role in the future of Trinity's ministry.
