Seoul, South Korea - one of the world's largest cities!

Report for Sunday, August 2nd

Good Morning, Pastor Dunbar and all!

We are working on our presentations for the ESL Camp at this very
hour.  Our plan is to work in teams of two and present games, songs,
and other information, using information to tell the children about
God while working on English vocabulary and sentence structure.  We
have 15 minutes of two 50 minute classes for our presentations and
then assist the English-speaking Korean teachers of the classes.

Today we worshipped at International Lutheran Church, the church the
O'Neals attend.  The people were very warm and friendly.  One of their
members has served as our guide in Seoul for two day trips.  Today we
ate at a restaurant near the church and then went to the Seoul tower,
where we enjoyed a view of this huge city.  The tower is the highest
in Korea.  We descended to the bottom of the hill on which it sits by
cable car.

This is the first afternoon since we've been here that we have not had
torrents of rain.  Instead it only rained gently for a short time.

All for today.

Report for Tuesday, August 4th

Hi, Pastor Dunbar and all!

We thought you might like to know about our outreach activities in the
community.  I am the 5:30 AM outreach person since that is when I run.
One of my runs is through a community garden behind the
apartment
buildings
that border Luther University.  There I have met several
people who are working at that early hour.  On my way back, I always
greet a group of ladies that exercise on the soccer field at LU and
then visit on the benches nearby.  They remind me of the Chrome Coffee
Group, so hello to them!  Starting today Hope has joined me in the
morning effort.

The night social outreach is handled by Doug and Michael.  They have
had conversations with a local restaurant owner; a young man from the
U.S. visiting his grandparents, who live in the apartments across the
street; and various others.

Our work with the ESL Camp students is going well, and we will be in
the classrooms one more day.  We are now preparing for our next
adventure on Baebu Island with the youth gathering.  We will be in
charge for much longer periods for this event, so our work is cut out
for us.

Thanks for your prayers.

Report for Wednesday, August 5th

Hi, Pastor Dunbar!

Our group has been making presentations and helping with the ESL Camp
for three days, and now they want us to do one more day since we don't
leave for Daebu Island until 3 PM tomorrow.  We are busy working on
new lesson plans, but we did take time out for some karaoke tonight.
One of the teachers from Luther University has the equipment and a
great voice.  He and Hope were the stars of the evening.

Report for Friday, August 7th

Dear Pastor Dunbar and all,

We had a two hour evening service last night and really did a
spectacular job, thanks be to God!  Kathy, Barb, Becca, and Amanda
gave a Bible lesson and application.  Doug and Michael led some fun
games, I took them on a Bear Hunt, and then thanks to all the help
from Kathy, Amanda, and the kids' parents we were able to play our
bell songs.  We did the songs 4 times, so that everyone got a turn.
It gave us all chills to see them playing and smiling.  Such a fun
activity!  Mary Ann and Nikki helped on the floor and I worked with
the AV man since we had done our Bible lesson in the AM time slot.

Hope, as usual, is the trooper of the group.  She and Rebecca filled
the whole last 20 minutes or more with sing-along music when the rest
of us had exhausted our repetorie.  The parents were all so grateful
for our efforts and thanked us profusely.

Our interpreter, one of the many Pastor Kims, bought pizza for us
after the evening was over.

My run this AM was interesting.  I ran down a main road with hardly
any traffic through vineyards and small houses.  Finally I turned
around in a very posh resort area.  It is amazing to find houses that
look like those in the U.S. instead of the huge apartments.

The China Sea (I think) is just beautiful.  I did my praying down by
it this AM.  The view is straight out of an Asian watercolor.
