Baptism

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." -- Matthew 28:18-20
Baptism is the greatest gift a person can receive.  Through baptism we are adopted as God's sons and daughters and given all of the gifts that come with being children of the king. Martin Luther writes in his small catechism that baptism "works forgiveness of sins, delivers from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare."

In Romans 6:3-4, Paul says, "Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."

Because we believe that baptism is God's work and his gift, we baptize children and adults.
